“I am coming!” called a voice into Mason’s mind. He didn’t recognize it, even though he knew he should have. Somehow, through the fog enveloping his mind, he could still feel a sense of caring coming from the voice’s owner. Despite the burning ravaging his body from the laser wound in his side, he took a careful unsteady aim at the nearest thug. With a flash of blue-white light, the dimly lit bay turned brighter than noon. In less time than it took for him to blink, the pulse round struck it’s target. In a fiery explosion of energy, his target’s chest turned into a gaping mess of jagged, charred bone and incinerated tissue.
